Govt warns against wrongful deportation of Nigerians
FOREIGN missions in Nigeria yesterday got a food for thought from their host – the Federal Government.
They were warned against the deportation of Nigerians without following the appropriate institutional and legal framework.
Foreign Affairs Minister Ambassador Olugbenga Ashiru conveyed the message at a parley with the Diplomatic Corps in Abuja.
“We, however, insist that this deportation should be done within the appropriate institutional and legal framework and with dignity and decency. We have indeed signed MOUs with some countries of the world and are ready to take similar actions with interested countries.”
While urging Nigerians all over the world to be law abiding and not abuse the hospitality of their hosts, he said: “It is a cardinal principle of Nigeria’s foreign policy to promote and protect the welfare of Nigerians. We will not abdicate this responsibility to our citizens all over and in all circumstances.”
On the need for conducive environment for visas applicants in the country, he said: “Missions that have not erected special reception halls for visa applicants should do so, in order that Nigerian visa applicants will not have to queue in the rain and hot sun when they apply for visas at embassies.”
He also accused some foreign missions in the country of breaching the proper channel of communication with the Federal Government.
Ashiru said: “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs remains the official channel of communication between government and accredited missions. My ministry will ensure that requests for assistance are treated expeditiously. I shall therefore take a deem view of missions who flout this established channel of communication.”
The minister also disclosed the country has received trade and economic delegations from different countries, urging them to continue in that spirit for the mutual benefit of the populace.
He condoled with the government and people of Italy and United Kingdom (UK) over the death of their kidnapped nationals during a rescue attempt as he called for the support of international communities in the fight against terrorism since Nigeria has decided to tackle the challenge.... http://www.thenationonlineng.net

Foreign Affairs Minister Ambassador Olugbenga Ashiru conveyed the message at a parley with the Diplomatic Corps in Abuja.
According to him, the Federal Government has nothing against deportation provided it is done with dignity and decency.
He also told the Foreign Ambassadors and High Commissioners to urgently provide special reception halls for visa applicants, decrying the way Nigerians queue up in the rain and in the sun for visas.
His words: “Let me state here that the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is not opposed to the deportation of Nigerians who no longer have the rights to remain in the countries from where they are being deported, especially after they might have exhausted all local remedies.“We, however, insist that this deportation should be done within the appropriate institutional and legal framework and with dignity and decency. We have indeed signed MOUs with some countries of the world and are ready to take similar actions with interested countries.”

Interesting!!!
Why UK deported 53 Nigerians.
MORE facts emerged 3 days ago on why Britain deported 53 Nigerians last week.
Many of them had overstayed their visas. Some had completed their prison terms, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said. It also maintained, through a statement signed by its spokesman, Ogbole Ode, that 53 – not 120 – Nigerians were brought back home from the United Kingdom (UK).
The statement explained that the deportation followed due process because the affected Nigerians were made to face some migration-related panels and went through legal appeals.
It claimed that the processes, up to deportation level, were monitored by senior officials of the Nigerian High Commission in London .
The statement reads: “On the issue of deportation of Nigerians from Britain , we wish to state emphatically that the total number of Nigerians involved was 53 contrary to the exaggerated claim of 120.
“These compatriots were removed from the UK essentially because they have overstayed their visas or have completed their prison terms.
“Deportation of Nigerians from the UK is covered by a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Migration Returns which was concluded between the two countries a few years ago.
“Under the terms of the MoU, Nigerians who no longer have the rights to remain in the UK and have exhausted all local remedies and legal appeals are subject to removal from the country.
“This has made deportation of such Nigerians a matter of routine that now takes place in line with the provision of the MoU.
“The whole process was supervised by very senior officials of the Nigerian High Commission, London.”
An official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who also spoke in confidence, said: “We started Migration Returns in 2005 after the completion of the MoU.
It is a global trend to deport migrants who are surviving through illegal means, including credit card fraud, internet scams and immigration paper forgery.
“It is not as if Nigeria is condoning the deportation of its citizens. Those who have valid visas and earn income legitimately in the UK have nothing to fear.”

Take control of your life.
Nearly everyone suffes from heartburn at some point, certain foods may also bring it on - spicy, fatty or acidic foods can be culprits, so there's no need to let it get you down....
5 Top tips to avoid heartburn:
1. Slow Down: rushing your food is a common cause of heartburn. So take your time when you eat it and chew it well.
2. Avoid Smokin: Nicotine causes the muscle between the oesophagus and the stomach to relax, allowing digestive acid to rise into the oesophagus, which can trigger indigestion.
3. Dont lie Flat: Sleep with your head slightly higher than your feet so your digestive juices flow down into your intestines, not up into your oesophagus.
4. Relax: After you've eaten a meal wait a while, as physical activity will increase your chances of indigestion and heartburn.
5. Exercise: This is the part many of us (including myself) might have challenges with, but regular physical activity helps keep your digestive system moving, decreasing the systoms of heartburn.
If heartburn is in one way stopping you from enjoyin life at some certain times of the day, you may want to try a new treatment.... now available over the counter at your local pharmacy - Pantoloc Control. It works at the source of the problem by stopping your stomach from producing excess acid.
Pantoloc Control is effective for up to 24hours and you can get relief both day and night with just one tablet.

Investing in our Relationships.
Relationships exist everywhere and are established everyday; begining from our spouses, parents, siblings, friends to our neighbours and work environments. The success of our relationships with people, makes us realise how beautiful life can be & helps us to succeed in everything.
If you want your relationship to thrive, you must invest in them by being a giver rather than a taker. Everywhere you go, strive to make relational deposits into people's lives, encouraging them, building them up, and helping them to feel better about themselves.
Granted!!! Its not always easy.... Some people are difficult to be around, because they tend to draw the life and energy out of you. Not that they are bad people, they just drain you. They always have a problem, or some major crisis that they are convinced requires your help to solve. They talk all the time, so much so that, after the conversation is done, you feel as though your emotional energy is gone.
There are also some others that no matter how hard you try, you cant just seem to get any positive ord from them. They are so pessimistic, you never get any encouragement for any suggestion or idea you asked them.
When I was doing my dissertation sometime back, there are times I would just get tired, confused and feel like all I've written was not right. When I spoke to a particular friend of mine about it, to probably cool off and find some advice since he had just recently concluded his. He never encouraged me, he would always be looking and speaking of the negative side of things and of the problems he went through. Jeeezz!!!! I had to stop communicating with him, cos he wasn't adding anything to my life but rather after speaking with him I would feel more troubled.
Difficult people dont make positive deposits, they are too busy making withdrawals. Please dont misunderstand me. Its okay to be down and discouraged occassionally. Everybody has a right to a bad day; but when you begin to have it all the time and rub it on people (like anywhere, anyday, anytime) then, that a problem.
You are not going to have good friendships, if you're always draining the emotional reserves of the people around you. if your're always talking about whats wrong with your life, or how badly people or circumstaces are treating you, thats an extremely selfish way to live. Try to get you mind off yourself and quit living with the ''what can you do for me? attitude'' and replace it with questins such as ''what can i do to help someone else?

Our Value
A well known speaker started off his seminar by holding up a $20 bill. In the room of 200, he asked, “Who would like this $20 bill?”
Hands started going up.
He said, “I am going to give this $20 to one of you but first, let me do this.” He proceeded to crumple the dollar bill up.
He then asked, “Who still wants it?”
Still the hands were up in the air.
“Well,” he replied, “What if I do this?” And he dropped it on the ground and started to grind it into the floor with his shoe.
He picked it up, now all crumpled and dirty. “Now who still wants it?” Still the hands went into the air.
“My friends, you have all learned a very valuable lesson. No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it because it did not decrease in value. It was still worth $20.
Many times in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled, and ground into the dirt by the decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way.
We feel as though we are worthless. But no matter what has happened or what will happen, you will never lose your value. You are special – Don’t ever forget it!
