Govt warns against wrongful deportation of Nigerians

FOREIGN missions in Nigeria yesterday got a food for thought from their host – the Federal Government.
They were warned against the deportation of Nigerians without following the appropriate institutional and legal framework.

Foreign Affairs Minister Ambassador Olugbenga Ashiru conveyed the message at a parley with the Diplomatic Corps in Abuja.

According to him, the Federal Government has nothing against deportation provided it is done with dignity and decency.

He also told the Foreign Ambassadors and High Commissioners to urgently provide special reception halls for visa applicants, decrying the way Nigerians queue up in the rain and in the sun for visas.
His words: “Let me state here that the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is not opposed to the deportation of Nigerians who no longer have the rights to remain in the countries from where they are being deported, especially after they might have exhausted all local remedies.

“We, however, insist that this deportation should be done within the appropriate institutional and legal framework and with dignity and decency. We have indeed signed MOUs with some countries of the world and are ready to take similar actions with interested countries.”
While urging Nigerians all over the world to be law abiding and not abuse the hospitality of their hosts, he said: “It is a cardinal principle of Nigeria’s foreign policy to promote and protect the welfare of Nigerians. We will not abdicate this responsibility to our citizens all over and in all circumstances.”
On the need for conducive environment for visas applicants in the country, he said: “Missions that have not erected special reception halls for visa applicants should do so, in order that Nigerian visa applicants will not have to queue in the rain and hot sun when they apply for visas at embassies.”
He also accused some foreign missions in the country of breaching the proper channel of communication with the Federal Government.

Ashiru said: “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs remains the official channel of communication between government and accredited missions. My ministry will ensure that requests for assistance are treated expeditiously. I shall therefore take a deem view of missions who flout this established channel of communication.”
The minister also disclosed the country has received trade and economic delegations from different countries, urging them to continue in that spirit for the mutual benefit of the populace.

He condoled with the government and people of Italy and United Kingdom (UK) over the death of their kidnapped nationals during a rescue attempt as he called for the support of international communities in the fight against terrorism since Nigeria has decided to tackle the challenge.... http://www.thenationonlineng.net

Interesting!!!

Why UK deported 53 Nigerians.

MORE facts emerged 3 days ago on why Britain deported 53 Nigerians last week.
Many of them had overstayed their visas. Some had completed their prison terms, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said. It also maintained, through a statement signed by its spokesman, Ogbole Ode, that 53 – not 120 – Nigerians were brought back home from the United Kingdom (UK).

The statement explained that the deportation followed due process because the affected Nigerians were made to face some migration-related panels and went through legal appeals.
It claimed that the processes, up to deportation level, were monitored by senior officials of the Nigerian High Commission in London .

The statement reads: “On the issue of deportation of Nigerians from Britain , we wish to state emphatically that the total number of Nigerians involved was 53 contrary to the exaggerated claim of 120.
“These compatriots were removed from the UK essentially because they have overstayed their visas or have completed their prison terms.
“Deportation of Nigerians from the UK is covered by a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Migration Returns which was concluded between the two countries a few years ago.

“Under the terms of the MoU, Nigerians who no longer have the rights to remain in the UK and have exhausted all local remedies and legal appeals are subject to removal from the country.
“This has made deportation of such Nigerians a matter of routine that now takes place in line with the provision of the MoU.
“The whole process was supervised by very senior officials of the Nigerian High Commission, London.”

An official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who also spoke in confidence, said: “We started Migration Returns in 2005 after the completion of the MoU.
It is a global trend to deport migrants who are surviving through illegal means, including credit card fraud, internet scams and immigration paper forgery.

“It is not as if Nigeria is condoning the deportation of its citizens. Those who have valid visas and earn income legitimately in the UK have nothing to fear.”

Take control of your life.

Nearly everyone suffes from heartburn at some point, certain foods may also bring it on - spicy, fatty or acidic foods can be culprits, so there's no need to let it get you down....

5 Top tips to avoid heartburn:
1. Slow Down: rushing your food is a common cause of heartburn. So take your time when you eat it and chew it well.

2. Avoid Smokin: Nicotine causes the muscle between the oesophagus and the stomach to relax, allowing digestive acid to rise into the oesophagus, which can trigger indigestion.

3. Dont lie Flat: Sleep with your head slightly higher than your feet so your digestive juices flow down into your intestines, not up into your oesophagus.

4. Relax: After you've eaten a meal wait a while, as physical activity will increase your chances of indigestion and heartburn.

5. Exercise: This is the part many of us (including myself) might have challenges with, but regular physical activity helps keep your digestive system moving, decreasing the systoms of heartburn.

If heartburn is in one way stopping you from enjoyin life at some certain times of the day, you may want to try a new treatment.... now available over the counter at your local pharmacy - Pantoloc Control.  It works at the source of the problem by stopping your stomach from producing excess acid.

Pantoloc Control is effective for up to 24hours and you can get relief both day and night with just one tablet.

Investing in our Relationships.

Relationships exist everywhere and are established everyday; begining from our spouses, parents, siblings, friends to our neighbours and work environments. The success of our relationships with people, makes us realise how beautiful life can be & helps us to succeed in everything.

If you want your relationship to thrive, you must invest in them by being a giver rather than a taker. Everywhere you go, strive to make relational deposits into people's lives, encouraging them, building them up, and helping them to feel better about themselves.

Granted!!! Its not always easy....  Some people are difficult to be around, because they tend to draw the life and energy out of you. Not that they are bad people, they just drain you. They always have a problem, or some major crisis that they are convinced requires your help to solve. They talk all the time, so much so that, after the conversation is done, you feel as though your emotional energy is gone.

There are also some others that no matter how hard you try, you cant just seem to get any positive ord from them. They are so pessimistic, you never get any encouragement for any suggestion or idea you asked them.
When I was doing my dissertation sometime back, there are times I would just get tired, confused and feel like all I've written was not right. When I spoke to a particular friend of mine about it, to probably cool off and find some advice since he had just recently concluded his. He never encouraged me, he would always be looking and speaking of the negative side of things and of the problems he went through. Jeeezz!!!! I had to stop communicating with him, cos he wasn't adding anything to my life but rather after speaking with him I would feel more troubled.

Difficult people dont make positive deposits, they are too busy making withdrawals. Please dont misunderstand me. Its okay to be down and discouraged occassionally. Everybody has a right to a bad day; but when you begin to have it all the time and rub it on people (like anywhere, anyday, anytime) then, that a problem.

You are not going to have good friendships, if you're always draining the emotional reserves of the people around you. if your're always talking about whats wrong with your life, or how badly people or circumstaces are treating you, thats an extremely selfish way to live. Try to get you mind off yourself and quit living with the ''what can you do for me? attitude'' and replace it with questins such as ''what can i do to help someone else?

Our Value

A well known speaker started off his seminar by holding up a $20 bill. In the room of 200, he asked, “Who would like this $20 bill?”
Hands started going up.
He said, “I am going to give this $20 to one of you but first, let me do this.” He proceeded to crumple the dollar bill up.
He then asked, “Who still wants it?”
Still the hands were up in the air.
“Well,” he replied, “What if I do this?” And he dropped it on the ground and started to grind it into the floor with his shoe.
He picked it up, now all crumpled and dirty. “Now who still wants it?” Still the hands went into the air.
“My friends, you have all learned a very valuable lesson. No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it because it did not decrease in value. It was still worth $20.
Many times in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled, and ground into the dirt by the decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way.
We feel as though we are worthless. But no matter what has happened or what will happen, you will never lose your value. You are special – Don’t ever forget it!

The Seasons of Life

There was a man who had four sons. He wanted his sons to learn to not judge things too quickly. So he sent them each on a quest, in turn, to go and look at a pear tree that was a great distance away.
The first son went in the winter, the second in the spring, the third in summer, and the youngest son in the fall.
When they had all gone and come back, he called them together to describe what they had seen.
The first son said that the tree was ugly, bent, and twisted.
The second son said no – it was covered with green buds and full of promise.
The third son disagreed, he said it was laden with blossoms that smelled so sweet and looked so beautiful, it was the most graceful thing he had ever seen.
The last son disagreed with all of them; he said it was ripe and drooping with fruit, full of life and fulfilment.
The man then explained to his sons that they were all right, because they had each seen but one season in the tree’s life.
He told them that you cannot judge a tree, or a person, by only one season, and that the essence of who they are – and the pleasure, joy, and love that come from that life – can only be measured at the end, when all the seasons are up.
If you give up when it’s winter, you will miss the promise of your spring, the beauty of your summer, fulfilment of your fall.
Don’t judge a life by one difficult season. Don’t let the pain of one season destroy the joy of all the rest.

Astrology: What's the deal?

I have not really been a fan of horoscopes or astrology, but I kind of got attention via facebook...
I've always looked at such things as been a lie or fetish in a way. C'mon, how can an individual or a particular day, week, month or year be forecasted from looking at the signs/position of the stars, sun and moon.

But, to be realistic, one certain day, I read my horoscope and things that happened throughout that day was in the direction that the horoscope stated & it saved me (big time!!!!). Its not like I completely believe everything or I hold on to it like a manual to live my life, I just tink they have some signals or truths in them though not exactly as it would happen, but more or less like painting a blurry picture.

Each time I mention something like this to a friend of mine, he says that I'm not alright to be believing such things.
Firstly, if you take a look to the birth of christ, the people we know as ''the 3 wise men'' were astrologists - who studied the positions and aspects of celestial bodies in the belief that they have an influence on the course of natural earthly occurrences and human affairs. Hence, on their observation of a particular star that came up & stood out suddenly from the others in the sky.

They knew something not ordinary was happening on earth, they knew a king had been born, they studied the star and followed it, till they got to the manger where christ was born. Secondly, they offerred gifts (Gold, Frankincense & Myrhh), the gifts where prophetic and had a spiritual meaning :

. Gold as a symbol of kingship - the King that Christ is for us;

.  Frankincense (an incense) as a symbol of deity - the divinity and supreme being of Christ

. Myrrh (an embalming oil) as a symbol of death -  represents the bitter cup that Christ had to drink in suffering for our sins.

We all have our individual skills, talents and gifts..... an astrologist is gifted as well.

New iPad launch: Apple fans out in force to bag new tablet

The new iPad went on sale in London this morning and the first in line at the flagship Regent Street store was Zohaib Ali who spent six days sleeping rough to get his hands on the device.

“I’m really excited to get my new iPad, eventually,” the 21-year-old student from Uxbridge told Yahoo! News.

“The iPad is the best product of the year and there won't be any more until 2013 so I am happy to queue. I love Apple products," he said. First thing I am going to do once I get back home is use Facetime and use all the new features."

Mr Ali has autism and his mother Rahat Ali believes Apple products have helped him overcome his disability.

Announced on March 8, the latest iPad comes with an improved ‘Retina’ display which has a million more pixels than a high definition TV set. Apple said that “off the charts” demand had severely cut initial stocks of the iPad, with pre-order deliveries delayed for up to three weeks in the UK.

The scenes on Regent Street were mirrored across the globe as thousands queued to get the new tablet. Australians were first to pick up the iPad.

The new iPad, which has a higher resolution screen than previous models and a five megapixel camera with auto focus and auto exposure, ranges in price from £399 to £659.

Technology at its best.... Seriously, its time I got mine..... You should too :).

How To Be Single And Happy (Finding Happiness)

How To Be Single And Happy (Finding Happiness)

Learn to appreciate your single status. Here are five things I found out that singles sometimes take for granted.

1: Sleep

Sleep is a beautiful thing. When you're single, no one's nagging at you to get up or counting the hours that you've spent in bed. You are left in peace with your box fan and body pillow. Sleep all day guilt-free! hmm......my favourite, I was sooo good at it :)

2: Money

When you're single, there's no joint account. You can do whatever you want with your money. There's none of that "what's yours is mine, what's mine is yours" foolishness. No household budget. Go ahead and buy that hideous, life-size statue of Tyra Banks/ Lionel Messi. Put it in the middle of the living room. No one is the boss of you!

3: Career

Work all night, all weekend if you want to. Then socialize with the boss until 2:00AM or later. Your married co-workers can't compete. They've got "commitments". You win by default! And when that headhunter calls, there's no one holding you back. Pack up and move wherever the fattest paycheck is waiting...  Not your fault :)

4: Rejection

When you're single, rejection is your friend. If you're on a bad date, make up some excuse and get the heck out of there. You don't have to ever see him/her again..... Period!!

5: Amuse Yourself

Host a poker tournament complete with back up dancers. See how much laundry you can fit into the washer. Create a new dish out of the few things you have left in the cupboard and eat it in the middle of the night. Become a pro at belching the alphabet. The possibilities are endless.

Some committed people won't mind being single just for a day (or even a week). So, enjoy your Single status while you can; Don't go rushing into some dump relationship because ''everyone'' is in a relationship or fear of being single.

Nollywood Actress Mercy Johnson, loses one arm in a new movie.

This photograph was gotten from a movie set in Enugu to show how far Nigerian makeup artists have gone.
In the photo, Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson appears to have lost one hand in a terrible manner.

What do you think of the Job by the makeup artist, does it look real or armature?

They want to know your opinions.

(Jeeezz!!!! LoL..... my opinion is too long, tink its best I save my energy)

Down but still Strong...

Things happen!!! Sometimes I say its a miracle. Some other times, I say its just a coincidence but most of the time I say things happen for a reason and there are no such things as coincidences. I have been going through so much lately; work issues, relationship issues, financial issues but I just keep holding on. Mostly because the sun comes up every day and I get to see how beautiful the day is.
Wait!!! dats certainly not the real reason; It's probably just my faith and trust in God, believing that a change of story is around the corner and each passing day is leading me closer to that testimony.

I was just doing really low one certain day sometime back, broke down in tears, cried myself to sleep after prayers. Low and behold the very next day, things happened that reminds me that God does answer prayers and even in challenging times, he would never leave nor forsake me. Throughout that day and week, i was experiencing favours from all corners.

Delay isnt denial, so it is said; therefore slowly but surely my heart desires will be granted unto me.

CELEBRITY QUOTE: I AM VERY SINGLE AND SERIOUSLY SEARCHING - ACTRESS IFEOMA OKEKE

''I have never felt inferior and will never do.All my friends are very free with me and I have never kept friends that are on the big size''.

''They accept me the way I am and we get along well. The only thing is that I am taller than most of them, but they are very slim girls and we like ourselves.''

''If they decide to wear their bumpershorts, I will wear mine too but the only thing is that I will never wear anything without bra.I have never felt inferior and I always love myself no matter where I go''.

''Everybody don’t have to be slim and any man who loves big babe will never love a slim babe,so my man cannot fall in love with you and your man can never fall in love with me''.

''I am not trying to say that men run after me because I have big boobs but the truth is that big boobs is really attractive and people do appreciate it in their various ways''.

STAR ACTRESS DAKORE EGBUSON DENIES PLAN TO QUIT ACTING

Pretty actress and new mother of one, Dakore Egbuson is back on the movie scene, after she took a long break to nurture her marriage.

The happy mother who recently delivered a baby girl for her husband, Olumide Akande in Chicago,United States of America,is back to Nollywood.
She took all by surprise last week, when she walked into the hall of Silverbird Galleria, during the premiere of Emem and Ini's new movie, ''I'll Take My Chance''.

This is because not much has been heard or seen of the actress who relocated to the States, shortly after her marriage to Olumide, the son of a Nigerian billionaire and politician, Harry Akande, as it was rumoured that she was going to quit acting after marriage.

In a recent interview, She was asked:- There are rumours that you have quit acting after you got married? She said Nooo! You see, people just put that notion out there and unfortunately nobody asked me, people can say what they want to say, but at the end of the day, it's my life and I know what I want to do with my life, priority first like I said I keep being who I am, an actress who loves what she does, but I have to make sure my family is fine, it's is all about balancing between my family and career.

Asked :- Have you been doing anything to enhance your career?
She said You see,it is a gradual process, right now, I am looking at some scripts and if I find something that interests me, I will come back to work but for now I am focusing on my baby.

She is indeed missed, I loved her acting...

The deal will see Amvictorious USA team work with Stella Damasus to produce high profile dresses.

Amvictorious is company with the primary aim of turning passion for unique products into a work of art to be worn with a Feel Good appeal. It also seeks to play a prominent role in the economy by investing more in the African market especially Nigeria.

Stella Damasus, as we learnt, got the mega deal based on the fact that she is God-fearing, positive, a woman of substance traits and her constant aim at uplifting and inspiring everyday people in different areas of everyday living.

Stella was also said to have been chosen because she is a proud African woman of humble origins who celebrates the achievements of African women around the world.

SDA Collections is expected to launch on March 24 at 2pm at the Fashion Showcase, The Haven Ikeja, Lagos.

For a classy lady, I'm definite classy designs and dresses are on the way :)

Nollywood Actors.... What do U think?

They say, personality and character displayed can define your opinion of how you see or what you think about an individual... this is just a brief opinion of how I see the nollywood acts based on their roles they perform (nothing more).

Retired Actors: There are some actors that have retired from acting and some who are no longer seen regularly on nollywood movies:

They performed roles of great ranking and position which commanded/demanded respect from others. In and Out of the Industry, they are still greatly respected and admired.
Some others are Hilda Dokubo, Shan George, Pat Attah, Chidi Mokeme, Saint Obi, Ibinabo Fiberesima, Regina Askia etc. They are still remembered and appreciated.

Highly rated Actors:

These include who have built a career overtime with their consistent, strong and undoubtable acting skills, maintaining a strong presence in the industry. The likes are Genevieve Nnaji, Stella Damascus Aboderin, Kate Henshaw-Nuttal, Uche Jumbo, Olu Jacobs, Joke Silva, Ramsey Noah.

Fast Rising Actors:

These include actors who have risen very fast in the industry (length of period and in number of movies). Some examples are the likes of Mercy Johnson, Ini Edo, Tonto Dike, John Dumelo, Jackie Appiah, Van Vicker, Majid Michel, Nadia Buari.

Annoying Actors:

These includes actors, who no doubt have acted in a number of movies but are quite annoying in the roles they played. My opinion of annoying is because they are either wannabe's, too fake, too pitiable, over reacting/overdoing things. these include the likes of  John Okafor AKA Mr Ibu, Tony Umez, Hanks Anuku, Amaechi Muonagor, Chinwetalu Agu. Movies with these actors in them, I don't fancy or bother watching.

A peep on nollywood.....

Looking back 10 years ago and presently where the nollywood industry has gotten to, I can agree to an extent they have improved.... but there's still quite a lot of work and effort to be done especially in the movie titles, story lines. because there's really no point watching a movie where most times, you can actually predict the happenings till the end.
The one that really annoys me now is the fact that you watch a movie followed by the part 2; which obviously shows that its not the end but you search for the continuation and find out it has a different name with a part 1 & 2 as well. How annoying!!!!

That means 4 parts (4 CD's) just to get a message across in drama, funny enof, if you add the mins of the movie in each CD, it might just come to roughly 180mins max....... honestly, I and probably many other would seriously prefer a 2 hours movie in 1 CD with an intriguing story (then i wouldn't mind buying so much movies with my money).

However, i still watch them but I can't help but select the movies based on 1. the title and 2. the actors in the movie.

Be in Line....

Why do so many people today feel unfulfilled in their lives, merely by going to work at some mundane job, trying to earn a living and probably stuck in a career they dont even like? The answer is simple, they are not pursuing the dreams or passions God has placed within their hearts.

We have just one life to live; hence our goal should be to live it to the fullest. This necessarily doesnt have to be by attending all the parties and club or drinking every beer in town; but by pursuing our passions and dreams.

Our destiny has to do  with what excites us; what we are passionate about or what we love doing?
Sometimes, the society or economy we find ourselves in might not permit us or make it asy for us to pursue those dreams...... I completely understand and I'm not saying we dont have to work hard, or there are not going to be  some frustrating  days, and some people we have to deal with; certainly, that is part of life.... all i'm trying to bring to our attention is we should try to find some satisfaction, contentment or reason to enjoy what we do.

One the other hand, when you are really in line with your destiny, things come naturally to you. For instance, the owl is nocturnal (it likes to be out and awake at night). God has given the owl (as well as bats) eyes that can see perfectly well at night just as human beings see during the day. If the owl decided that because some other birds are out during the day, he wanted to be out and about just like them, it would be working against God's plan and destiny for it, guess what? Problems would certainly follow for it cos first of all, it would have a hard time finding food; therefore it would be struggling for the rest f its life. So it is natural for the owl to operate at night.

Similarly, we all have been given certain gifts talents or skills that you can do well, dont take them for granted. Just because my friend is a singer or banker and she's doing well for herself, doesnt mean I should head in that direction/career path. What seems exihilarating to one person may be boring for another.

In general, life should not be a constant struggle, when you are really in line with your destiny, and enjoying what you do.... things come naturally to you. You can't do everything well, but there is something you can do very well. Look inwards, identify it & explore it....

More than a feeling

Love is a beautiful and an amazing feeling..... (yeah yeah), we hear and see that all  over the romantic movies especially in ''bollywood''.

All the same, its more than a feeling; love is something that can be seen.
Love has many facets, or different ways we can see it....

For example, when a diamond ring is held to the light, it can sparkle in various ways depending on which way it is turned in the light.
dts d same way love sparkles in different ways, depending on how we look at it.... the words ''i love you'' could be said 20 times a day to you, which would give you ''an amazing feeling'' but true love shows itself more through action.

These action doesnt have to be impossible, huge or overwhelming.... bt throgh simple thoughs and in little things, a long lasting love is established.
